Legal firm warns lawyer over "Pornhub" WhatsApp comment

Mutumbwa Mugabe and Partners Law Firm has warned Gugulethu Ndlovu, who is an associate at Gill, Godlonton and Gerrans for portraying Prophet Advocate Joshua John Chirambwe as a sexually immoral person.

Mutumbwa Mugabe and Partners said Ndlovu published a post on the Young Lawyers Association WhatsApp group which defamed Chirambwe in his religious and legal circle.

“On the 24th of January, you published a post on the YLA WhatsApp group in the following words: ‘what in the porn hub is he wearing’.

“The statement, in particular, the word ‘Pornhub’ was meant to imply, did imply and was understood by its direct and indirect audience to imply that our client is a person of loose morals and lacking in moral fibre. The statement associates him with sexual immorality and was understood in his religious circles and within the legal fraternity as meaning that being a prophet, a prophet and a lawyer, he is a hypocrite who does not follow or abide by the teachings of his calling.

“There is another disturbing dimension to this saga. You belong to a group - the YLA - which is contesting our client’s constitutional application against the Ministry of Justice and the Law Society. Your post is clearly an insult and a personal attack against a person with whom you and your group are engaged in a legal contest.

“As you may have known, our client is a Christian leader who subscribes to the norms of forgiveness and, therefore, has chosen to let go, electing not to unleash the long arm of the law against you,” Mutumbwa Mugabe and Partners said.

Ndlovu was pardoned after he apologised through a WhatsApp group, a phone call and a written apology.

The firm has, however, warned him that he should not repeat the same act, considering he has done it before to Chirambwe.
