Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry is under fire for spewing lies in Parliament and the suspended Zimbabwe Football Association board filed a lawsuit demanding US$300 000 for defamation.

Popularly known as the Zifa 4, the quartet allege that the former swimming champion lied to Parliament that they misappropriated part of the US$2 million provided by the government and that some of them have been suspended over sexual harassment issues.

Zim Now is in possession of a copy of the  letter of summons commencing action dated April 14  filed at the High Court of Zimbabwe (case number HC2540), and instructions were given to Rubaya and Chatambudza law firm.

“Payment of the sums of US$300 000 being damages for defamation for statement made in the Parliament of Zimbabwe on the 29th of March 2023.

“Interest on the sum set above reckoned from the date of summons to the date of payment in full.

“An order mandating defendant (Coventry) to withdraw the false and defamatory statement made in Parliament of Zimbabwe on March 29 2023,” read part of the letter of demand.

Coventry is accused of having lied in Parliament and is alleged to have soiled the names and reputations of Felton Kamambo, Philemon Machana, Stanley Chapeta and Joseph Mamutse.

The four challenged her to prove her false allegations and trumped-up charges, insisting that their hands are clean.
