Police have intensified an operation to flush out drug peddlers in Norton whom they associate with violence, theft and other crimes that have been prevalent in the dormitory town.
Two men, Lordwin Nziramasanga, 44 and Michael Mapfumo, 23, were recently arrested for unlawful possession of prohibited drugs and have since appeared in court.
For the State, Zebediah Bofu alleges that on April, 15, 2023 at around 07:00 hours, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare were informed that there was rampant abuse and selling of drugs in Norton which had resulted in the escalation of violent crimes.
On the same day at around 08:00 hours, they invaded a drug base in Katanga suburb where they found Nziramasanga present.
A body search was done on him leading to the seizure of one satchet of suspected Methylenedioxymethamphetamine from his right trousers pocket.
He was subsequently arrested. Nziramasanga led detectives to his house where searches were made leading to the seizure of another big satchet of suspected Methylenedioxymethamphetamine on top of the table in the bedroom.
He was taken to CID Drugs for further management.
A test was done on the seized drugs and it tested positive to Methamphetamine.
The recovered drugs were weighed and recorded approximately 10 grammes with a street values ZWL$ 100 000.
Harare Magistrate Denis Mangosi ordered Nziramasanga to appear in court on April, 20 for bail application.
Meanwhile, Michael Mapfumo, 23, also of Norton was before the same magistrate accused of possessing dangerous drugs.
On April, 15, 2023 at around 07:00 CID from Drugs and Narcotics, Harare,
went to Kingsdale, a drug base in Norton and saw Mapfumo who was there.
They searched him and during the search they found one satchet of suspected Methylenedioxymethamphetamine from his right trousers pocket.
The recovered drugs were weighed in Mapfumo's presence and recorded approximately one gramme with a street value ZWL$ 10 000.
Mapfumo was denied bail and was ordered to appear in court on April 20 for bail application.
