A Marlborough man who stands accused of defrauding people by placing an advert that there were employment vacancies in Bedfordshire in order to steal from people has appeared in court.
Frank Nguwi, 26, of New Forest, Goodhope, Marlborough appeared before magistrate Yeukai Dzuda at the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of fraud.
The State, through, Thomas Chanakira, alleges that sometime in February 2023 Nguwi working together with his accomplices Tapiwa Mugove, Lloyd Idaishe Chiwanza and one Calvin who are still at large came up with a plan to deceive desperate job seekers.
In order to be successful in their plan they posted an advert on Facebook group called "All Chando Mates Information", using a United Kingdom number.
The advert was about job vacancies in Bedfordshire.
On March, 11, 2023, the complainant saw the advert and became interested. She looked for Nguwi through WhatsApp as the advert looked genuine and she also possessed the necessary documents needed for the job.
Nguwi convinced the complainant that there was only a single post left and told her that the whole process was for US$4 000.
He instructed the complainant to deposit the money into Sarah Makuyana's FBC account number or to hand over the money to one Llyod Idaishe Chiwanza.
On the same date the complainant deposited US$3 500 into the given bank account.
Since then Nguwi became evasive prompting the complainant to make a police report.
This led the complainant to lose US$3 500 and nothing was recovered.
The State alleges that, on April, 14, 2023, Nguwi and his accomplices used to same way in trying fleece money form other people.
After seeing the advert on Facebook the complainant insisted that she wanted to pay the money cash instead of depositing the US$4 000 into a bank account
She was told to give the money to Chiwanza in the CBD. After that they blocked her and never communicated with her again which compelled her to make a police report.
On April 21, 2023, they sent the same advert on Facebook platform inorder to swindle more money from other people.
The complainant pretended as if she was ready with the money and engaged the police leading to Nguwi's arrest.
Dzuda ordered Nguwi to appear in court on Monday for bail application.
