Chris Walker, a former teacher at Pakati Secondary school has returned to Murehwa  31 years later, to handover donated laptops, polo shirts and football kits to the primary and secondary schools that bear the name Pakati.

“We have been very fortunate to have received a number of donations, which I am now transporting to Zimbabwe,” Chris Walker  who is visiting from the UK said.

The Great Horton based ex-teacher taught at Pakati Secondary School from 1989 to 1991. He explains how his ties to the place have resulted in a Santa visit 31 years later.

“30 years ago I was a VSO volunteer teacher at Pakati Secondary School in Zimbabwe. I returned for a visit in September 2018, and after talking to the current Head teacher, Mr Chikafa Mugove, we agreed the best way to help the students of both Secondary & Primary Schools was to introduce IT equipment & get them learning with & about modern technology,” Walker explains his passion for Pakati on his fundraising campaign.30

He said his fundraising campaign for underprivileged young people continues.

“We are still looking for more funds to complete the solar repairs at Pakati Primary School. So far, we have raised £168 of the £600 we need.

“The solar panels need replacing, and the lack of power is a real problem for both schools.”
