A Chitungwiza man who raped his 12-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.
He was convicted after a full trial before Chitungwiza regional magistrate Gloria Takundwa.
The State, led by Pamela Dzinduwa proved that in November last year, the girl and her younger sister were asleep in the same room with their father, who was sleeping on the bed.
The 12-year-old was sick, resulting in her staying asleep when her sister woke up at around 6:30am to play outside.
The father woke up later and slipped into the girl’s blankets, covered her mouth with his hand, threatening to hit her with an object if ever she screamed for help.
He raped her once without protection and continued to assault the child in the same room on other days.
The girl told their landlord’s daughter, who helped her to report the assaults to the police during the month.
