A Kwekwe family that was unaware that they were living on top of a mining tunnel for years got is lucky to be alive after the house collapsed into the huge extractive hole.
The Rusike family house is in the Globe and Phoenix area, the same area as the Globe and Phoenix Mine Primary School, which gave in to a mining tunnel a few months back.
Luckily the family had vacated the house just before the incident after hearing noises from mining activities underground.
Teams from the Department of Civil Protection, Government departments and the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development visited the scene to assess the damage.
