Chitungwiza, Hatfield and Seke commuters using the Charge Office bus terminus in Harare have expressed their disappointment over uncollected garbage especially with the country currently experiencing cholera outbreaks.

Commuters are worried that the issue has been dragging on for a long time, and the city council is not doing enough to deal with the problem.

A vendor, who operates in the area, expressed disappointment that the local authority was turning a blind eye to the situation

“This poses a serious health hazard and the council must act now before things get out of hand.

“We believe that the city fathers are not doing anything at all to solve this situation,” said a commuter.

A vendor operating from the rank, Tendai Maunganidze, said the council must intervene and collect the garbage at the rank. This environment is not safe for vendors who operate here with their children.

“If they have failed to collect refuse, they should invite other players who are willing to religiously collect all this garbage,” Maunganidze said.

Another vendor accused the council of deliberately ignoring areas used by the masses.

“We are not happy, our health is at stake here and there is nothing we can do because this is where we make our livelihood. What is bad is that the council is pretending that nothing is wrong here.

“They have marshals collecting parking fees in such a dirty area every day, but failing to collect all this trash,” she said.
