Four men have been arraigned before the courts charged over extortion after going to the complainant's workplace, demanding money for them not to arrest him as he was dealing in dangerous drugs.

Clive Thodlana Smail, 45, of Waterfalls, Ronald Tafirenyika, 24, of Waterfalls, Prince Ndavambi, 37, of ZRP Braeside Camp, Mathew Fama, 30, of Hatfield qppeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with extortion.

The State, through Grace Mugocheke, alleges that on June 24 at around 1700 hours, Smail directed Tafirenyika, Ndavambi and Fama to the complainant's workplace at Parktown Shopping Centre in Waterfalls.

When they arrived, Tafirenyika, Ndavambi and Fama convinced the complainant to sell them 20 grammes of Crystal Methamphetamine.

The complainant told them that he was not selling any drugs.

Fama tried to grab the complainant, but he ran away.

Ndavambi and Fama ran after the complainant. Ndavambi had a CZ service pistol which he used to fire two shots in the air, but the complainant continued running away.

Suddenly, he was blocked by other unknown accused persons who were driving a white Honda Fit.

Ndavambi then fired another shot from the CZ Pistol on the ground near the complainant's feet and warmed him that if he ran away he would shoot him.

The accused persons told the complainant that he was under arrest for unlawfully dealing in dangerous drugs and were taking him to Harare Central Police Station.

Along the way, they demanded US$2 000 from him so that they could release him and he told them that he could only afford US$500 which was at his house.

They drove towards the complainant's house and ordered him to call his wife to bring the money.

The wife came and they were handed over the money.

The complainant was later released, prompting him to file a police report at ZRP Waterfalls, leading to the arrest of the four.

Chibanda ordered the four to appear in court on August 28.
