Nkayi is one of the remote districts to receive an ambulance as Zimbabwe’s health services continue to improve with 32 emergency service vehicles are being distributed countrywide.

“The Nkayi District Hospital received its ambulance from the Govt. Govt is committed to improving health services delivery. This will benefit the people in Nkayi and neighboring communities,” tweeted Information Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana.

This is one of 40 new fully kitted ambulances being distributed to public health institutions countrywide. Eight are still being kitted and expected to also be in use soon.

An additional 60 specialised medical emergency vehicles are set to be distributed to health centres by year.

Government says ambulances are being distributed according to each province’s need, with remote areas being prioritised.

Each province is set to be allocated between 8 and 10 ambulances once all the vehicles have been fully kitted.

Last year Zimbabwe received 20 ambulances from India and World Health Organisation in partnership with African Development Bank.

“We hope that the ambulances will strengthen the healthcare system in Zimbabwe and make the bilateral relationship more ambulatory, dynamic and strong,” said Ambassador of India to Zimbabwe Mr Vijay Khanduja at the handover ceremony.
