Peter Vowles replaces Melanie Robinson as British Ambassador to Zim

Peter Vowles has been appointed British Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe, taking over from Melanie Robinson CMG. 

Vowles’ appointment is effective September 2023.

Married to Hannah Vowles, Peter was born in Oxford, United Kingdom but now lives in Moray, Scotland.

In 2022, he was appointed as Foreign Commonwealth Development Office Transformation Director.

He served as the Myanmar, Head of Mission at the British Embassy from 2021-2022.

He served as FCDO Director for Asia, the Carribbean, and Overseas Territories from 2018 to 2021.

From 2016 to 2018, he was appointed as the Department for International Development Country Director, British High Commission in Nairobi and DFID Head of Programme Delivery from 2013 to 2016.

From 2010 to 2013, Vowles served as DFID Deputy Country Director, for the British Embassy in Kinshasa and from 2007 to 2010, he worked in New Delhi as Head of Global Partnerships, British High Commission.

Melanie Robinson has been the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe since January 2019.

Prior to this, she was the Executive Director for the UK at the World Bank Group in Washington from 2015-2018.
