A Gokwe man who could not resist the temptation to grope a 13-year-old girl’s breast, shall forever rue this decision as he was slapped with an effective nine-month jail term for the offence.

Collen Dzviti, 30, had initially been slapped with a one-year jail term by Gokwe magistrate, Tatenda Mukurunge-Doma, who suspended three months of the sentence on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the coming five years.

Dzviti shall serve nine months in prison.

The State, led by Prosecutor Bongani Kandungurushe, proved that on August 15 around 1pm, the girl (name withheld) was herding her parents’ cattle in the village’s grazing lands, while in the company of her six-year-old sister when they met Dzviti.

It was proved that Dzviti then went on to greet the complainant, before he proceeded to grope her left breast.

The girl then went to her house and she narrated her ordeal to her aunt and a report was then made to the police, leading to Dzviti’s arrest for indecent assault.

When Dzviti appeared before Mukurunge-Doma, he readily pleaded guilty.

Asked by the court why he committed the offence, Dzviti said he thought he was playing with the complainant.
