CAPS United……...3
Bulawayo Chiefs…2
CAPS United secured their place in the top-flight league with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Bulawayo Chiefs in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Last season’s Golden Boot winner, William Manondo, scored twice for the Green Machine, opening the scoring with a header in the 29th minute and equalising with an acrobatic kick just after the hour mark.
Chiefs got their goals from Obriel Chirinda and Billy Veremu while Rodwell Chinyengetere sealed the win for CAPS United with a goal in the 79th minute.
The win takes CAPS United’s points tally to 41, lifting them to eighth position on the log standings.
CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe expressed delight with the three points, praising the team’s overall performance and the impact of key players, including the goal-scoring comeback of William Manondo after a dry spell.
Chitembwe highlighted the team’s control and dominance, particularly in the second half. With three matches left in the campaign, Bulawayo Chiefs, on the other hand, remain in 12th position with 36 points, just two points above the relegation cut-off point.
Chiefs have lost their last three matches and are now in a precarious position as they strive to avoid relegation.
