Renovations of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport terminal, completed by China Jiangsu International as part of the whole airport development project that will cost US$153 million is set to enhance Zimbabwe’s global presence.
In an interview with Zim Now, Airports Company of Zimbabwe Public Relations and Communications Manager, Tonderai Mangombe confirmed the development.
“These renovations are part of the whole airport development project that’s costing US$153 million.”
The renovation of the old terminal has enhanced its passenger handling capacity while the revamped right-side flight display offers an improved visual experience.
Mangombe is seeing development in the country’s economy through the just-completed renovations.
“A beautiful point of entry encourages repeat visits and word-of-mouth recommendations, driving tourism growth and contributing to the country’s economic development. It showcases Zimbabwe’s commitment to infrastructure development and modernisation, enhancing its competitiveness in the global market.
“Furthermore, a well-maintained and aesthetically appealing point of entry reflects the country’s attention to detail, organisation, and overall professionalism. This can instil confidence in international travellers and investors, assuring them that Zimbabwe is a reliable and trustworthy destination,” said Mangombe.
He added that besides boosting tourism and attracting investment, a beautiful point of entry can have a positive impact on local communities. “The increased tourism activity can create employment opportunities, stimulate local businesses, and generate revenue for the government through taxes and fees.”
Mangombe also said that a beautiful point of entry is crucial for enhancing the country’s reputation while at the same time, promoting economic growth, and establishing a strong presence in the global tourism market.
“It acts as a gateway to the country, leaving a lasting impression on visitors and setting the stage for a positive experience in Zimbabwe,” he said.
The Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport is now under the Airports Company of Zimbabwe, aims to become a regional hub, handling 6 million passengers annually.
Recent upgrades include aerobridges and baggage carousels, signalling progress in modernising the country.
