Freeman (real name Energy Sylvester Chizanga) feels some things happening in his life may be a sign of evil tidings, but says he is thankful when no lives have been lost.
“Sometimes ndofeeler sendomiswa nemweya yemadzinza (I feel like ancestral spirits are pursuing me). But God is for us all. We plan but God decides. We thank God no life was lost,” said Freeman.
His sentiments come on the back of an accident that happened on Saturday, October 22, in which a friend of his cousin was involved in an accident while driving a car belonging to the musician.
The friend had no authority to drive the car, a Fortuner. He took advantage of the owner’s tiredness after a musical performance in Masvingo and drove through a secluded area where the accident happened.
So damaged was the car that Freeman had to look for other options to fulfil his next show which was in the Harare Gardens.
But the musician has opted to forgive, let bygones be bygones, dusted himself up and is raring to go back to work.
“This kind of situation that I have gotten into is not the end of the road. My (case) has just gone viral because I’m a known citizen, otherwise there so many unreported accidents happening out there. Only that hatingazvizive tese because vanhu vacho aint public figures asi hapana akakosha kudarika umwe - Ini, newe , naye (we are all the same).
“Kana zvadai pasina afa totenda Mwari (we thank God no one is dead), just wana say this to everybody out there in this same situation: Where there is life there is Hope!! Zvishandwa zvinotsvagwa zvimwe (fortunes can always be sought some other time). Don’t Lose Hope, God has a Reason for u to be who u are!!”, he posted on his official FB page.
The facts leading to the accident are that after his Masvingo performance, Freeman retreated to his hotel room to rest. He was in the company of his cousin and the latter’s friend who had travelled all the way from Beitbridge for the show.
Since he had another event to fulfill in Harare, the singer woke up early, but was surprised to find his car missing from the car park. The cousin’s friend was nowhere to be seen. A search was conducted and they eventually found the damaged car at the accident scene with the friend lying some metres away, injured, but stable.
The Masvingo accident comes days after Freeman staged what may arguably be the show of the year in which he shared the stage with Jamaican singer Christopher Martin for a sold-out show in Harare.
