Three men will have to endure prison after being sentenced to an effective six months in prison after a robbery in which they went away with US$115 and ZWL$1 500.
Thomas Sithole, 38, Courage Kambiriyenda, 23, Samson Kazingizi, 26, appeared before magistrate Munashe Chibanda accused of robbery.
The complainant in this matter is Tinashe Mudyiwa, 24, of Mt Pleasant, Harare and is employed at Health Point Hospital.
The State, through prosecutor Zororai Nkomo, alleges that January 4, 2024, at around 2200 hours at the National Gallery along J Nyerere Way in Harare CBD, Mudyiwa was walking alone when he was grabbed by the three.
They were holding his hands while the fourth accused person, who is at large, searched his trousers pocket and stole an Itel phone worth U$15, US$5 and ZW$1 500 and they ran away.
Mudyiwa was, however, assisted by onlookers to chase the accused persons and caught three of them while the fourth suspect escaped with Mudyiwa’s items.
The total value of items which were stolen is US$115 and ZW$1 500 and nothing was recovered.
