A 48-year-old suspected robber, Godfrey Njoromore, died in a shootout with police in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza after trying to evade arrest, the law enforcement agents confirmed.
In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that the suspect was implicated in interviews with the police by Benjamin Chipiri, who was arrested on December 2 in a related robbery case at a house in Zengeza 5, Chitungwiza.
“Benjamin Chipiri implicated Godfrey Njoromore after being interviewed by the police,” Ass Comm Nyathi said.
Police further report that the discovery of Njoromore’s whereabouts was a result of received information which they acted upon leading to CID homicide tracking him to Nyatsime, Chitungwiza where the shooting incident occurred.
Police “tracked Godfrey Njoromore to Nyatsime, Chitungwiza where he was shot on the thigh after trying to evade arrest,” police said.
Njoromore was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he died upon admission.
The police thanked members of the public who provided useful information.
