One of the faction of the Citizens Coalition for Change party led by Nelson Chamisa has joined legal proceedings in which rival organisation fronted by Sengezo Tshabangu is appealing against Pelandaba Tshabalala MP Gift “Ostallos”s Siziba and 22 others for filing their candidature for the upcoming by-elections under the party name.

Tshabangu, whose claim to the interim secretary-general position of CCC is being disputed, took the 23 recalled legislators and councillors to court, citing a previous judgement upholding his recall authority. He argues that the respondents are ineligible to contest under the CCC banner, accusing them of “contempt of court” and “forgery” for seeking nomination under the party’s name.

In his application, Tshabangu did not cite Chamisa’s faction, which claims to be the real CCC that sponsored the respondents. Against this background, the main opposition leader’s faction successfully applied for a jointer in the case.

Lawyer Obey Shava, who represents Chamisa’s faction in the case, said they are going ahead to challenge Tshabangu’s lawsuit

“We went in as the CCC, which was not cited, the CCC that sponsored those candidates, and we made an application that we want to be part of these proceedings.

“We want to be joined because you can not deal with our candidates without telling us. That application was granted, and we are going to be filing our papers before lunch hour,” Shava said.
