Former Citizens Coalition for Change president, Nelson Chamisa, has blocked fellow opposition party leader, Linda Masarira on X after the latter sent him a birthday message that also sought to criticize his leadership style.
Chamisa celebrated his 46th birthday anniversary last week with several people sending him birthday messages.
Masarira’s message read: “Your biggest weaknesses are inability to forgive, lack of sincerity and inability to work with those who critique you or have better ideas that you. If you can overcome those vices, maybe only then can you lead a successful movement.
“May the Lord grant you the desires of your 46th birthday prayer. Happy birthday vaChamisa. Makore ngaawedzerwe kuti muzopupurawo kuti (May you live longer to witness that) Zimbabwe had a female president in your lifetime,” she wrote.
After Chamisa blocked her she responded: “Nelson has finally blocked me on X. Weak people feel threatened by those who tell them the uncomfortable truths about themselves. The truth is that without a strong, united team, no matter how popular you are, awuyi ndawo!”
Masarira, who fronts the Labour, Economists and African Democrats party, which she founded in April 2019 campaigned for the presidency in 2023 but failed to file nomination papers as she could no raise the required US$20 000.
Before 2019, she was spokesperson for Thokozani Khupe’s splinter faction of the MDC-T, where she was fired for wearing Zanu PF regalia at home.
Chamisa left the CCC two weeks ago alleging that the party had been infiltrated but his party colleagues accused him of not being democratic.
When he left the opposition party, Chamisa did not consult his party, leaving them in a quandary on his intentions.
They are now in a fix as to whether they should follow him by leaving Parliament with many staying put arguing that they used their resources to campaign for the National Assembly seats.
