A Harare man, who took advantage of his wife’s absence and allegedly raped his niece, has been taken to court.
The man from Overspill in Epworth appeared before Sandra Mupindu at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with rape.
He was remanded in custody.
The complainant in this matter is a 14-year-old juvenile.
The State, through prosecutor Tambudzai Masamvi, alleges that in May 2023, in Hopley, Harare, the complainant was left home with the accused by her aunt.
The accused allegedly then told the complainant that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her and would give her US$1 and the complainant agreed.
He allegedly then had sex with her. After the act, he then gave complainant US$1.
The State also alleges through prosecutor Tambudzai Masamvi, alleges that in January at Cornerstore Overspill, Epworth the complainant was left home in the care of the accused by her aunt.
It is alleged that the accused then told the complainant that he wanted to have sex with her and promised her that he would give her money and she agreed.
It is alleged that he then removed complainant’s clothes placed her on the bed an raped her.
After that, the accused did not give the complainant the money as promised.
The matter was unearthed on February 2, when the complainant was seen walking with her boyfriend and her aunt asked if she had sexual intercourse with anyone and she refused.
Her aunt kept on asking her and that is when she revealed to her that she was raped by the accused.
The complainant was later taken to the hospital, leading to the arrest of the accused.
