In a surprising turn of events, former Zanu PF youth leader, Kudzanai Chipanga has been welcomed back into the party fold. The party’s politburo, Zanu PF’s highest decision-making body, endorsed Chipanga’s re-admission at its 372nd ordinary session on February 29, 2024.
Chipanga’s expulsion came in 2017 alongside other members linked to the G40 faction, which fell out of favour following the ousting of former President Robert Mugabe. This move signifies a shift in the political landscape, with Chipanga now eligible to contest for any party position.
An official letter, seen by this publication, informs Chipanga of the decision. “You are now free to participate in all party programmes and activities without prejudice with immediate effect,” the letter states.
“You can now enjoy the full rights and duties of being a member of Zanu PF as provided under article 3 of the Zanu PF constitution.”
Zanu PF Manicaland chairperson, Tawanda Mukodza confirmed receiving the communication from the party leadership but declined to comment further.
Chipanga’s return is a significant development, raising questions about the evolving dynamics within Zanu PF.
