A family friend who went out with complainant, spiked her drink before raping her has been denied bail.

Jona Chari, 34, of Budiriro, appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei charged with rape.

He was order to apply for bail at the High Court and will appear in court on April 19.

The complainant in this matter is a 17-year-old girl.

The State alleges that on March 29, at around 2000 hours, the complainant received a call from Chari who asked her to come out of the house and complainant complied.

The two allegedly went to Chari’s friend’s house where his friend left the two in his house.

It is alleged that Chari then went to a nearby tuck shop and came back holding a soft drink which he gave to the complainant.

The State heard that after taking the drink, she started feeling dizzy.

It is alleged that Chari took advantage of her condition and then undressed her.

The court heard that she tried to stop him but was overpowered as she was feeling dizzy.

She then fell unconscious and woke up the following day in the morning and discovered that Chari had sex with her without her consent.

It is alleged that she asked Chari what had happened but he remained silent.

Chari’s friend did not return and it is alleged that Chari locked the door and left the complainant in the house.

It is alleged that Chari would rape the complainant whenever he got the chance up to April 1.

The complainant’s mother conducted a search and found the complainant at Chari’s friend’s house.

The mother asked what had transpired and she told her everything, leading her to report the matter to the police.
