51-year-old man caged 20 years for rape of minor

A 51-year-old man from Chimanimani will serve 20 years’ imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl.

The accused appeared before the Chimanimani Magistrates’ court facing rape charges.

He raped the 10-year-old minor on October 27, 2023.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe alleges that on October 26, 2023, the accused person passed by the complainant’s house and found her mother cooking.

“He entered the hut drunk and fell asleep. The complainant’s mother went to sleep in another room after preparing dinner, leaving her daughter in the hut with the accused person.

“The complainant and her cousin slept in the same room as the accused.

“The next day, at around 0400 hours, the accused person woke up, raped the complainant and told her not to tell anyone promising her money.

“He then went to the complainant’s mother’s room to ask for water,” the NPA said.

The mother heard her daughter crying and upon enquiry, the complainant informed her mother about the rape.

The incident was reported to the police the next day, leading to the accused’s arrest.
