A sex worker who gave shelter to her friend’s 13-year-old young sister, who was seeking shelter, has been arraigned before the courts.

The accused woman, 30, of Gazebo, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with rape.

She was remanded in custody.

The complainant is a 13-year-old juvenile.

The State alleges that on April 17, the complainant was given US$20 by her mother to buy tomatoes for sale.

When the complainant’s mother returned, the complainant failed to give her mother the money back.

This led her to run away as she was afraid of being beaten and thought of going and come back in the evening when everyone was asleep.

It is alleged that on April 19, the complainant did not come back home as she later thought of going to the accused woman, who is her sister’s friend to sleep there.

It is alleged that the accused left the complainant with her daughter and later came back with two unknown men in the evening.

She ordered the complainant to comply with everything.

The court was informed that the accused ordered the complainant to remove all her clothes and one of the men told her that he had been given permission to have sex with her and he raped her.

It is alleged that the accused also had sex with the other man she had brought home.

After that, the accused left the house with the two men and only put her clothes back on when the accused woman returned.

In the morning, the complainant went home and was taken to ZRP Mt Hampden Post to clarify where she had put her mother’s money and that is when she revealed the sexual abuse.
