Thirteen Zengeza High 1 School students have been invited to participate in the Orate Africa Regional Quiz and Public Speaking contest in Dar Salaam, Tanzania, running between December 11-16.
The opportunity came after they won the national contest in Mutare in October.
Among the students who progressed are upper sixth students Robin Pawandiwa, Tinashe Mungwari, Zivanai Chidyiwa and Brandon Nyirenda as well as lower sixth students Progress Mageza, Tinokudzaishe Chipotereke, Simbarashe Mutesva, Melody Nyirenda, Chikomborero Kuchekenya, Tanaka Chimutashu and Kudakwashe Chikono.
In the Shona public speaking category, the winner was Munashe Katiyo, also from the same school.
Quiz patron Blessing Ndlovu said the school is setting high standards and for the institution it is an honour to be representing the country at such a grand stage.
“I’m very humbled by the success of my team and we want to encourage other young people to engage in such activities including drama and poetry,” she said.
Meanwhile, the school is appealing for financial support from the private and public sector to help cover the costs of the trip.
The budget to cover the costs for board and travel has been pegged at US$15 000.
Orate Africa is the largest Oratory development organization in Africa focused on oratory training with specifics on public speaking, debate, moot court, spelling bee, quiz and poetry.
