Woman killed in Ruwa accident

A woman died while seven other people were injured in an accident involving a Toyota Wish, which was moving against oncoming traffic, and a Toyota Corolla along the Harare-Mutare highway in Ruwa yesterday.

The driver of the Toyota Wish reportedly fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the Toyota Wish was trying to avoid an oncoming haulage truck then hit a Toyota Corolla which, in turn, hit a Mercedes Benz C180 that was travelling on the same lane.

The haulage truck driver blamed the driver of the Toyota Wish for the accident. “He (driver of the Toyota Wish) was driving against traffic and I flashed my lights trying to give him a signal to stop, but he tried to avoid the truck and hit a Toyota Corolla which was behind me.

“The problem is that the road gets congested during peak hours and the mushikashika drivers use the opposite lane.
