A 45 year-old man from Ardbedeen Farm Compound, Norton, ran amok with an axe and fatally struck his wife after accusing her of infidelity. He went on to wrap the body in a blanket and hid it under the bed, police said in a statement.
Enwell Sitima has since been arrested for the murder of Melody Kavipa (34) who died on the spot.
“The suspect struck his wife, Kavipa, with a hoe on the neck and back after accusing her of engaging in an extra-marital affair.
“The victim died on the spot and the suspect wrapped the body with a blanket before hiding it under the bed,” the Police said.
In recent months, the country has recorded a number of murders of women at the hands of their partners, prompting mental health researchers and the police to try to get to the bottom of these regular femicide incidents.
Meanwhile, the Police in Bulawayo arrested Solomon Makurazita Sibanda for illegal possession of 22 National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) steel poles. Investigations are still underway.
The Police have also reported yet another fatal road accident which occurred yesterday at the 111 kilometre peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road. Spokesperson for the force, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident. He said six people died while several others were injured.
“A Honda Fit Vehicle with eight passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota KZ Double cab vehicle which had three passengers on board. The bodies of the victims were taken to Chegutu District Hospital Mortuary for post mortem, while the injured were admitted at the same hospital,” he said.
