
The Air Force of Zimbabwe has introduced compulsory drug testing for all new recruits, in a move aligned with intensified national efforts to combat substance abuse.
Information Secretary Nick Mangwana confirmed the development, noting that the measure is aimed at upholding discipline, professionalism, and integrity within the force.

AFZ Commander Air Marshal John Nzvede underscored the importance of maintaining a sober and focused military workforce, stating that the mandate to protect the country demands personnel of sound character.
“Defending Zimbabwe cannot be entrusted to individuals who abuse alcohol and drugs,” he said.
The initiative forms part of the Government’s #DrugFreeZW campaign, which seeks to address rising cases of substance abuse among the youth and within institutions of national importance.
The AFZ is among the first security services branches to adopt mandatory drug screening as a standard component of both recruitment and disciplinary procedures.
