The City of Harare will embark on a traffic blitz starting Monday, February 13,to ensure that order is maintained.
Speaking about the blitz, City of Harare Public Safety Manager, Martin Chimombe, said the council’s Public Service division will be targeting illegal activities in the roads.
He said people are not obeying the traffic rules.
“There are violent people that are violating our rules. We expect people to park within the parking slots and not obstruct traffic as we normally see.
“We also expect people to use designated ranks for our omnibuses and taxi cabs and we want to see order starting Monday next week,” he said.
Chimombe said if people are not complying, the worst is coming in the interest of order.
He added:
“Without free movement of vehicles, our Gross Domestic Product is going to be affected because people are delayed to work because of congestion hence slowing economic activities.”
Meanwhile, the council is appealing to the public to obey traffic rules as it is in favour of every member of the society.
