A 33-year-old man who tried to rape a 15-year-old girl after realising that she was alone at home, has been denied bail.
Simbarashe Chibikira of Dembetembe Village, has appeared before magistrate Taurai Manuwere at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing an attempted rape charge.
The State, through prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, alleges that on July 26, 2023 at around 1400 hours, Chibikira attempted to rape a juvenile aged 15.
The complainant in the matter was alone at home while her uncle and aunt had gone to town.
She heard someone opening the kitchen door and when she went there, she found Chibikira standing in the kitchen.
She asked what he wanted and he said he wanted to talk to her.
The girl walked away but Chibikira held her hand and pulled her back then he pushed her onto the sofa.
Chibikira ordered her not to screen and at that moment, she shouted for help but no one heard her noise.
Chibikira, then removed the complainant's trousers to the knee level, he also removed his trousers before a neighbour entered the kitchen.
Chibikira then ran away, after seeing that he has been caught in the act.
The case was reported to the police and he was arrested.
Chibikira was denied bail and he was advised to apply at the High Court.
He will appear in court on August 11.
