A man who prohibited aspiring Citizens Coalition for Change candidate for ward 35 from conducting their door-to-door campaigns has appeared in court.

Edwin Mbofana, 56, appeared before magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, facing assault allegations.

The State through prosecutor Zororai Nkomo, alleges that on August 8, at around 1000 hours at Shallow Tax Shops, Whitecliff South, in Harare, Pikisani Mpofu, an aspiring CCC candidate for Ward 35 council elections and complainant Vengai Tekeshe were carrying out door-to-door campaigns.

Mbofana met the two among other CCC supporters and barred them from carrying out their door-to-door campaigns.

A misunderstanding arose, leading to Mbofana assaulting Mpofu by forcibly grabbing him by the collar.

Mbofana went on to hit Yekeshe with a stone once on the head, resulting in him sustaining bruises.

Dzuda ordered Mbofana to pay US$50 bail. He was ordered to appear in court on August 22 for his routine remand.
