Zanu PF has launched a campaign to retake Gutu West Constituency in Masvingo Province in a delayed National Assembly election.

This followed its postponement after the death of one of the contestants, Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi, who had been duly nominated to contest the Gutu West seat as an independent candidate, in the run-up to the Harmonised Elections held on August 23 and 24.

Rwodzi, who was Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi’s husband, died in a road traffic accident.

John Paradza is Zanu PF’s candidate in the Gutu West by-election and will contest against Ephraim Murudu of the CCC.

Acting Zanu PF Director of Information, Farai Marapira said they were confident of a win since the constituency had an appreciation of Zanu PF already, adding that they were expecting a massive victory that will prove that Zanu PF is the custodian of people’s hopes and trust.

“There is no doubt that we are going to win this, there is no doubt that the democratic will of the people will once again endorse Zanu PF, the revolutionary party.

“This is because programs and projects that are being done by Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa are clear.

“Despite all our challenges, the president has been able to steer the ship and lead to a path of regrowth and through devolution his work has touched each and every community everywhere,” he said.

The Gutu West by-election will be held on November 11, bringing the National Assembly of the new 10th Parliament up to its full membership of 280 seats.

Zanu PF won 179 seats and CCC 103 seats in the National Assembly getting two thirds of the Parliamentary seats.
