Gospel musician and businessman, Mudiwa Hood, has revoked the honorrary  PhD honorary degree he was awarded by the International Institute of Philanthropy, saying he  never claimed the title.

The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education banned the IIP from awarding honorary degrees without registering with the higher education council, with those already awarded the degrees ordered to not identify with the titles that come with the honours.

Posting on X, Mudiwa Hood noted that he was offered the honours twice, he declined the first time only to accept the second time of asking, adding that he is revoking the tittle that comes with the honorary which has been condemned by Zimche.

“I declined the offer in May 2023, but by March 2024, it was emphasised that the recognition was due to my actual contributions, not academic achievements - they were clear, it wasn’t a PhD.”

“The issue was further complicated when Zimche noted that the awarding organisation wasn’t registered with them. As a result, I have distanced myself from this honour. I have never claimed the tittle ‘Doctor’ adhering to my principle of earning the title through completing my PhD,” Mudiwa Hood added.

The businessman is among many that have been awarded the degrees in recognition of their philanthropic work by the Institute, Zimche ordered a public revoke of those honoured.
