A 39-year-old Lupane man has appeared before the courts on charges of rape of a three-year-old girl.
The Lupane man reportedly raped the minor when her grandmother had gone to the bathroom, who then returned to find the man with his trousers down, raping the minor.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the grandmother screamed for help upon seeing the accused raping her grandchild, with helpers taking the accused to the police where he was charged.
“When she returned, she found the accused person sitting on the veranda with his trousers at thigh level and he was raping the complainant.
“Some villagers came and effected a citizens’ arrest on the accused person before he was taken to the police.
“The matter has been remanded to the 22nd of March 2024 and will appear at the Tredgold Regional Court,” the NPA said.
Meanwhile, a couple from Chegutu has been arrested for ill-treating a five-year-old left in their care.
In a statement, the NPA said that the accused are reported to have ill-treated and neglected their niece by assaulting her with whips and locking her in confinement.
