A former Golden Peacock Villa Hotel supervisor been taken to court on allegations of stealing the Hotel’s property.
Benjamin Muzengi, 32, of Mbare, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with unlawful entry into premises.
He was ordered to appear in court on May 28.
The complainant in this matter is Golden Peacock Villa Hotel represented by Zvikomborero Chimutasha, 33, who is the Hotel’s supervisor.
The State alleges that on April 2, the hotel allocated a room to a Chinese national.
On April 11, the hotel was informed by the Chinese national that the room had been tampered with and his US$9 000 was missing.
Chimutasha went to the room and viewed the closed circuit television and noticed Muzengi’s accomplice, one Lenon Sahari, committing the offence.
The court heard that Sahari later on confessed in form of writing that he had stolen the money and shared it with Muzengi and the other two accomplices, who are still at large.
During the confession by Sahari, it is alleged that Muzengi called two men who identified themselves as detectives and him to an unknown destination.
It is alleged that on April 12, the hotel tried to contact the numbers of the said detectives but to no avail and decided to make a police report.
It is alleged that the police took Muzengi for questioning and he admitted that he had been given US$600 by Sahari as part of his share.
He later led the police to the recovery of the US$600 at his house.
The court also heard that when the police got to his home, Muzengi had six complete sets bed sheets, one curtain, one duvet and a bed cover belonging to the hotel worth US$445.
When he was interviewed, he confessed that it was the hotel’s property.
