A man from Glen View, Harare, who wanted to sell a stolen firearm for which he did not have a certificate, has been taken court.

Edson Masiyarwa, 30, of Glen View 1, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

He was remanded in custody.

The State alleges that on April 23, at around 1330 hours, police from ZRP Glen View were informed that Masiyarwa had a firearm and was selling it.

They set up a team and went to Werraz Leizure Centre in Glen View 1 where they allegedly spotted Masiyarwa, who was among the patrons, and approached him.

They identified themselves to him before searching him, leading to the recovery of a Star pistol, serial numbers 1370458.

Masiyarwa failed to produce a valid firearm certificate, leading to his arrest.

Further investigations unearthed that the firearm had been stolen from Chegutu through unlawful entry and theft.
