A daring 36-year-old Southlea Park woman, who was arrested on allegations of possessing 98 bottles of cough syrups and packs of mbanje, has reportedly escaped from police custody.
Fortune Muwadzi is said to have pulled the houdini act at Mazowe Police Station Charge Office, where she was held.
For the alleged offences, Muwadzi appeared before Concession magistrate, Tatenda Mukurunge-Doma where she faced charges of Prohibitions, Controls and Restrictions in respect of medicines, Unlawful possession of a dangerous drug and escaping from lawful custody.
Magistrate Mukurunge-Doma remanded Muwadzi in custody to May 6 for trial.
Allegations are that on March 30 at around 9am, four police officers were manning a roadblock, enforcing an operation at Nyamiti Bus Stop along the Mazowe-Jumbo Road.
It is said that one of the cops, Constable Matasva, then signalled to stop a vehicle in which Muwadzi was a passenger in the front seat.
The driver of the car, one Tapers Kabapiro, was told to pull over and he complied.
Sensing danger, it is alleged Muwadzi then indicated that she had arrived at her destination and disembarked; carrying her satchel as she proceeded to the boot of the car where she took her sack.
Two cops then started searching the car.
However, luck ran out for Muwadzi, as she was stopped after she had walked a few metres from the car and the officers requested to search her.
She was then found in possession of 50 by 100ml and 48 by 100ml of Bron Cleer and benylin codeine cough syrups respectively and four packs of mbanje.
Muwadzi was then arrested and taken to Mazowe Police Station where she fled, before being re-arrested.
