Injury-ravaged Highlanders face tough trip to GreenFuel

Kelvin Kaindu

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League giants Highlanders are in a precarious position heading into their match against GreenFuel tomorrow. A string of injuries has left coach Kelvin Kaindu with a depleted squad, casting a shadow over their hopes of ending their winless streak.

The Bosso backline has been particularly hit hard.  Mbeba's absence against ZPC Kariba forced Kaindu to shuffle his defense, pushing him to right back and deploying Chigumira on the left.  Nyathi joined Muduhwa in the center of defense, but both players were injured during the midweek draw against Manica Diamonds.

While the makeshift defense managed to halt Manica Diamonds' winning streak, Kaindu is uncertain about Nyathi's availability for the upcoming match due to a head injury.  Adding to his woes, star player Faira has missed three consecutive games, and his replacement, Makaruse, is also doubtful.

Kaindu remains optimistic despite the challenges.  With four points needed to catch up to the league leaders, he might be forced to turn to youngster Prince Ndlovu. Ndlovu's direct style and impressive assists in his limited appearances as a winger could offer the attacking penetration Bosso desperately needs, especially considering the struggles of Mushore and Mhindirira.

Highlanders haven't secured a victory in four matches, and their depleted squad makes them heavy underdogs against GreenFuel.  Their opponents, recently appointing Chaminuka as their new coach, are also looking for their first win under his leadership.
