A Mutare truck driver who stole a truckload worth US$38 600-00 was ordered to appear in court on 16 November 2022 for ruling.
Benjamin Muringani (33), appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court for theft of trust property as defined in Section 113 (2)(d) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23
The court heard that on 13 November 2022, at around 10:00 hours, Muringani was given a truckload of 30 tonnes of Mega Spaghetti which was destined for Harare by the complainant.
He then departed Mutare driving a Freightliner Century Class Truck with its loaded trailer flatbed, white in color, (registration number ADZ9306) which was under satellite tracking.
On the way he tampered with the vehicle tracking device and turned into Goromonzi road where he unhooked the trailer from the horse.
Muringani, then drove the horse back to the Harare-Mutare highway where he dumped it near Tarisa Road in Ruwa.
To cover up for the offense, he filed a report of robbery at St Mary's Police Station.
The vehicle tracking device indicated that the accused never stopped at the alleged place of robbery.
The value of property that was stolen amounts to US$38 600-00.
Magistrate Dennis Mangosi ordered Muringani to re-appear in court on 16 November 2022 for ruling.
