A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Bindura Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of violently assaulting his spouse during a domestic dispute.
The court heard that on November 26, 2025, a misunderstanding at the couple’s residence escalated into a vicious attack.
The accused, whose identity has been withheld to protect the complainant, allegedly locked the door to prevent his partner from fleeing or seeking assistance before launching the assault.

During the attack, the man repeatedly struck the complainant using his fists, a leather belt and booted feet, inflicting blows across her body.
As a result of the assault, the woman sustained a swollen eye and multiple bruises and required medical attention.
In passing sentence, the magistrate found the offender guilty of domestic violence under the Domestic Violence Act, citing the severity of the attack, the excessive force used and the vulnerability of the victim, who had been trapped inside the house with no means of escape.
The court stressed that domestic violence is a serious offence that will not be tolerated and imposed a custodial sentence of 24 months to reflect the gravity of the crime and to deter similar conduct.
