Construction work at Rufaro Stadium has commenced with City Parking having procured most of the materials required for the construction of the perimeter wall, shopping complex, parking lot and B Arena ground.
Francis Muzenda, City Parking’s Public Relations Manager, said they are expecting that by mid-March they should be completing the project.
“Our contractors are already on the ground with their construction equipment ready to start work. We have already procured most of the needed building materials including 120 000 bricks, river sand, pit sand and cement among other materials,” he said.
Council has also started preliminary works on the ground and will make an announcement on the works in due course.
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has been under fire from some sections of social media for his promise to have revamped Rufaro Stadium in time for the 2023 season which kicks off in March.
Prior, Mafume said they only have to prepare the pitch and the ground to beautify it since the ground is solid, everything has been functioning before, and preparing dressing rooms to international standards can be done before March.
Owing to its sorry state, Rufaro last hosted Premier Soccer League matches in 2019.
