A family from Shackleton settlement, west of Chinhoyi yesterday escaped death after a huge tree fell on their house.

The tree fell due to heavy rains that fell in the area on Monday morning.

The incident left the property soaked and also destroyed the roof of the house.

The house was left with visible cracks due to the weight of the tree.

In a related but separate incident, Andile Ncube from Old Pumula, Bulawayo had a section of his two-roomed house collapse while he was inside at around 8pm on Thursday evening as heavy rains pounded the city.

He escaped unhurt.

Several houses have been destroyed around the country owing to the heavy rains being experienced.

In January, 43 houses were destroyed in Budiriro while 57 houses were damaged in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.
