Woman up for running forgery racket in town

A Harare woman, who was caught with objects used to produce fake documents, has appeared in court.

Moleen Magodi, 42, of Dzivaresekwa 3, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts after being found with articles for criminal use.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, on January 2, 2024, at 1000 hours detectives from CID Vehicle Theft Squad Harare were informed that Magodi was manufacturing fake documents which she was dishing out to members of the public for use.

A follow-up was made, leading to her arrest in her office behind Mohamed Mussa building.

The search led to the recovery of two blank copies of birth certificates, an HP Central Processing Unit, which had soft copies of various fake documents, including birth certificates, Ordinary Level certificates, bank statements from Stewart Bank and various Visa application forms.

Also recovered were a Dell Desktop, an HP a Laserjet Colour Printer, an HP Printer used for scanning documents and a Commissioner of Oaths date stamp.

Mangosi ordered Magodi to deposit US$100 as bail, and that she returns to court on February 22 for her routine remand.
