Football fans in Zimbabwe can rejoice as Dynamos and Highlanders, two of the country’s biggest clubs, are set for a major boost. Energy giants, Sakunda Holdings, are back on board as sponsors, unveiling a new package that includes the highly-anticipated kits for the 2024 season.

The previous sponsorship deal between Sakunda and the clubs expired last year, leaving fans in suspense. However, both Dynamos’ social media tease and the official announcement confirm a renewed partnership. This exciting news comes with the reveal of brand new kits, a welcome change as the teams have been using last season’s jerseys.

The details of the new package haven’t been disclosed, but it’s likely to mirror the previous one, which saw Sakunda inject US$3 million annually. This funding provides crucial support for player salaries, staff, and potential bonuses for championship wins. The sponsorship also offered a financial boost for continental competitions like the CAF Champions League, which neither team secured in the past two years.

Despite the uncertain sponsorship situation, Dynamos made a bold move by signing new players this season. Meanwhile, Highlanders, under the leadership of Zambian coach Kelvin Kaindu, focused on promoting talented youngsters while making strategic acquisitions. This strategy appears to be paying off, as Bosso currently sits atop the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table with an impressive five wins in five matches.

This weekend promises exciting clashes. Highlanders face a tough test against defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars, who are struggling to retain their title. Dynamos travel to face Simba Bhora, hoping to secure their second win of the season and potentially don their brand new kit sponsored by Sakunda.

Dynamos are also undergoing internal changes with the appointment of legal expert Clemence Chimbari as vice chairperson and chartered accountant Justice Mubayi taking charge of developing the club's future stars. These appointments signal a renewed focus on both legal and developmental aspects of the club.
