Bulawayo police probe attempted murder claims against Chinese national Li Song

Police in Bulawayo have launched an investigation into attempted murder allegations against Chinese national Li Song, following a complaint filed by her former business partner Francesco Marconati.

Marconati, who previously co-directed Eagle Italian Shoes and Leather with Li, accused her of attempted murder in a report filed at Donnington Police Station (case number CR43/01/24). He alleges that Li, who was ousted from the company on charges of fraud and money laundering, has been using her connections to impede the investigation.

Marconati, fearing for his and his son’s safety, wrote to Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, requesting the case be transferred to the CID Homicide Department in Harare. He expressed concern that Li’s alleged influence over Bulawayo authorities could hinder a fair investigation.

Despite Marconati’s request, Bulawayo police have assigned the case to Detective Gadzai and are currently handling the investigation locally.

This development comes amid a wider legal dispute between Marconati and Li. He accuses Li of embezzling millions of US dollars from their companies through illegal offshore transfers, potentially involving the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
