A drug dealer from Avondale in Harare who is also facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, has been ordered to pay a bail of ZWL200 000 and to return to court on 4 January 2023. Magistrate Dennis Mangosi presided over the case.
Conna Victoria Edwards (22), appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with unlawful dealing with dangerous drugs as defined in Section 156(1)(b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23. He was also accused of contravening Section 4(1) of the Firearms Act Chapter 10:09.
It is the state’s case that, on 11 November 2022, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare reacted to intelligence gathered during deployments that the accused was dealing in dagga.
The detectives posed as potential buyers and made an order through Edward's cellphone.
At about 1930 hours, law enforcement agents proceeded to his place of residence purporting to collect the order of the said drugs and they met up with the accused at the main entrance of the complex.
Edwards opened the gate for the detectives and offered the drugs to the team, leading to his arrest.
A search in the accused's house led to the recovery of dagga which was packed in glass and bottles and weighing approximately 2 kilograms.
The detectives also recovered and seized a Browning 12 Gauge shotgun series number F53408 with 13 live rounds from his bedroom wardrobe.
Edwards failed to produce a valid firearms license which is contrary to the Firearms Act. He also could not furnish the police with a license that allows him to be in possession of the drugs.
