Petrotrade Executives Accused of Unauthorised US$20k Travel Withdrawal

Two senior executives at state-owned fuel company Petrotrade Private Limited are under investigation after allegedly facilitating the unauthorised withdrawal of US$20 000 meant for foreign travel allowances.

Gift Mudadi, the company’s finance manager, and Dakarai Mukuku, an accountant, were released on US$300 bail each and are due back in court on January 8, 2026.

According to the State, on February 10, 2025, the two sent letters to CBZ Bank and Stanbic Bank, each requesting US$10 000. The money was collected by Sipho Joy Matewere, supposedly for international travel and allowances.

Investigations showed that the withdrawals were not approved by Petrotrade’s Chief Executive Officer or the Cabinet, as required under Circular 05/2023, which regulates foreign travel for public officials.

The issue came to light after US$10 000 of the withdrawn funds was reportedly stolen from a vehicle, leading to further internal investigations. Authorities also found that the withdrawals were made without proper documentation, ignoring company policy and government procedures.

The State says the executives deliberately bypassed rules meant to ensure transparency and accountability in managing public funds. Investigations are ongoing.
